I wanted to offer a meaningful experience - where I wanted to offer a meaningful experience - where creative growth and personal restoration take place simultaneously through the conduit of colour. Here, fellow creatives can flourish through discovery, experience and mutual collaboration in a beautiful, engaging environment away from home; where they reconnect with colour in new and felt ways. And so I landed with my ideas where they partly began - in Liguria, Italy - where charming interiors, beautiful landscape, specialist design, workshops and colourful architecture combine for the making of The Colour Retreat. Speaking from personal experience, there is nothing better than to sometimes step away from daily life to reset and refocus. It's such an honour to see my home featured in the It's such an honour to see my home featured in the latest article about 'City houses that make you feel you are in the countryside' @houseandgardenuk For those of you who are new here, these images were taken in 2022, prior to the re-decoration last year, when the living room was a verdant green and the dining room a strong pink...and my hair very red! My 'office' was in the front room where I surrounded myself with paint colours, pots and inspiration. The colours were lovely but I look around me now and see just how much my style and confidence with colour has developed and expanded with time and experience. In this recent comment, I speak of the way nature comes into the house and how I cannot imagine living somewhere without nature and colour on my doorstep, literally. Much of the art of illusion is dictated by the cho Much of the art of illusion is dictated by the choice of colour that the brain reads as perspective. Is it nearby, or in the distance or shade? Here, in Santa Margherita in Liguria, you can see traditional and more contemporary interpretations like this of the interplay between colour, light and shadow to create dimension and mood. I love how this fun, painted wall - on the doorstep of your design-concept hotel on my Colour Retreat - is painted with triangles and rectanges in only 3 colours: a pale highlight to indicate the point where the sun is hitting, a tonal shadow in a grey/blue, and a deeper warmer shadow jam-packed with warmth to give the idea of an underside in the shadow. Just so clever. Imagine designing a quirky bathroom floor like this, or a wall, with tiles, or even paint!
