A short article that touches on the intentional use of colour for psychological benefits, with a striking association to a physical experience. The article describes that with their work largely centred in colour for textile and carpet manufacturers, interior designers Carl and Ulla Christiansson chose white throughout their city apartment in Stockholm because they wanted to ‘whitewash their eyes’ when they stepped from the studio to their living room. I can relate a little here. Those who’ve visited Lantern Cottage for the Aesthetic Narrative course will know that we cover the role of colour for regulating the nervous system, and that the colour I chose for the dining room was to give a bit of lift and relief from the energy of colour elsewhere. I was visited yesterday by Amy who had approached I was visited yesterday by Amy who had approached me wanting to deepen her understanding of colour, through the Delysian Colour System. As a stylist, Amy has plenty experience working with colour and layers, so I felt an intensive day session would be ideal for her. We explored her Aesthetic Narrative for her room project - in this case the upper 3 parts of the stairwell for her Pimlico project- and I demonstrated my colour theory of the system and how to apply it. In the studio, a beautiful, vibrant scheme unfolded during the hand-on session. The incredible wow moment for us both was when Amy finally chose her wall colour under my guidance and said, “that’s just proved it works!” This photo captures that joy. The colour we arrived at happened to be similar to the one Amy previously thought might work but wasn’t certain. Amy left feeling submerged in my world of colour, with new approaches and much more confident. I cannot wait to see how Amy applies her new skills in her styling work @rocktheheirloom - watch this space! It’s been a week of hearing from past clients from It’s been a week of hearing from past clients from South London to St.Albans and I’m looking forward to repeat visits later in the month. Here’s a recent lovely email from a couple whose flat needed a makeover last year to reflect their fun, energetic style. Dark colours at the main entrance, leading to brighter colours for the main living areas, and a cloudy, wispy lime wash for the master bedroom. It look like the investment in a colour consultation has paid off: ‘Just thought we’d check in as it’s been a little while. We recently had some professional photos taken of our flat, which shows the gorgeous new paint in all its glory. Excited to share these with you! So glad you were able to take our dear friends on! We’re actually upsizing soon, so we’ll absolutely be reaching out again. Your magic touch will be needed no doubt!
