Discover your aesthetic narrative and learn the working method of the Delysian Colour System

This part 1 and part 2 workshop bundle (with a 20% discount on part 2) is ideal for those wanting to advance their understanding of colour and invest in using the Delysian Colour System for their work or pleasure. It is particularly useful for those working with a colour project or wanting to develop their appreciation of colour as a communication tool.

In her unique method, Fiona teaches these two workshops from her North London home, Lantern Cottage, as a case-study for observations, research, critical thinking and experimentation.

Part 1 emphasises the importance in the relationship between colour, person and interiors for shaping behaviour and mood. Attendees are encouraged to experience differerent atmospheres, to understand the role perception has with colour, and what dynamic and subjective influences are. The Aesthetic Narrative will help you build a profile and map for successful colour scheming that feels unique and personal.

When you return for your second workshop, Colour Perspective, with your aesthetic narrative map, you’ll learn how to bend colour to create harmonious and interesting combinations that enable you to think about the bigger picture — how to move colour across rooms, aspects and surfaces.

By the end of both workshops, you’ll have substantially extended your confidence and understanding of colour and learned how to layer a scheme, whilst also enhancing the spatial experience; you’ll take away colour handling skills that will, ultimately, enhance your professional service to your clients.

What you’ll learn in the DCS part 1 and part 2 workshops

In part 1, you’ll gain an insight into how the roles of perception, psychology and emotion influence the interaction with an interior.

Your colour choices are explored to echo ‘felt-life’ experiences and as a communication tool for your personal dialogue with your space. This process will help develop a narrative profile that supports the map-building exercise, creating the foundation for a colour scheme.

In part 2, you’ll learn the true nature of shadow and highlight, as seen in the interplay of light, colour and form. Then, as you gain an understanding of how to bend warm and cool hues, you’ll see that the placement of colour can enhance a room’s colour scheme, and help it connect with other rooms and surfaces by leaning into the light.

To conclude part 2, you’ll evolve your final colour scheme in the studio, with the help of designer fabrics, paint colours, and textural references. This will create a layered and more sophisticated version of the aesthetic narrative you built in part 1.

Who is this course bundle for?

The bundle package is ideal for anyone who wants to invest in learning the two parts of the Delysian Colour System at a slower pace than the full-day workshop. It is a better option for those who want to practice in-between lessons, and require longer to process what they’ve learned.

The DCS provides an holistic exploration of the personal meaning of colour, and how to apply this to a way of working. It touches on the psychology, perception and emotion of colour, and it’s application within a scheme for a professional and personal approach.

A benefit of the study duration over two days is that interior designers, colour consultants, or those with client-colour relationships, can reflect on their case-study project project between session day 1 & 2.

Both workshops include their own unique de Lys study materials: worksheets, a diary for colour thoughts (a much encouraged process in part 1), developmental maps for the aesthetic narrative, DCS narrative profile and colour roadmap ,and a trompe l’œil canvas.

My garden studio, a former Victorian wash-house, is an inspiring cosy space, equipped with designer and vintage fabrics, wallpaper samples, colour chips, colour charts, reference books and magazines. Each guest has their own tall desk area with phone holder, and enough light as needed for the practical parts of the workshop.

All attendees have access to Luminaria an exclusive online network group, held once a month. It’s somewhere to meet, share ideas and colour schemes, or listen to guest expert speakers, and to chat about the techniques that enhance communication with clients and amongst peers.

“I was especially fascinated by Fiona’s approach to reading light and how she uses highlight and shadow to craft colour schemes that transition beautifully between spaces…I left feeling like my soul had been quietly nourished. A reminder of the deep, emotional resonance colour can carry.”
