Great styling workshop yesterday here at Lantern C Great styling workshop yesterday here at Lantern Cottage. The theme I work with throughout my home is ‘Nostalgia’ - fragments of experience captured in time. I encourage participants to imagine the narrative taking place - what do you hear, what do smell? The desire to get up close and touch is also important. Elemental touches of that which decays and dries is an essential quality of my styling; no doubt the combined result of growing up in an Arts & Crafts home with a kitchen garden, as well as my former floristry career. A still life of flowers and garden food amidst layers built up with dripped candles, layered fabrics, open books and ruffled cushions - life left in a natural state after brief interaction - often creating atmosphere through layers that light filters between, making shadows. Lantern Cottage was once described in @houseandgardenuk as ‘magical, moody and romantic’ and it is a way of communing with space, rather than a way of prescribed styling. For some, it is difficult to step away from the habit of styling with the perceived idea of perfection as seen in catalogues. On my Curating Surfaces workshop you will - as a guest said - ‘learn to embrace a more relaxed style’. A short afternoon workshop of 2.5 hours, finishing with an Italian twist on afternoon tea.
