A brilliant example of cool and warm shadow colour

A brilliant example of cool and warm shadow colours happening this evening in my dining room, so much so that the cool cast from the pendant light is creating a cosy warm shadow colour on the wall from the sieve that virtually matches the woodwork colour!

This time 7 years ago when my confidence in colour was nothing like it is today. My living room and back garden room (now dining room) were shades of self-mixed greens. Soft and gentle to live with but not quite filling me with joy. Finding narrative and meaning is what made all the difference.

I’m still buzzing after Saturday’s workshop. The energy created when women combine their ideas and share and help one another is wonderful to witness. One of the benefits of group work is hearing another person’s perspective or dilemma with the room they are working on in the session - it sparks visualisations and solutions for consideration amongst everyone. In this photo, a guest has explored her Aesthetic Narrative and has unlocked the markers that will map the way forward for her scheme to unfold.

Part 1 of the Delysian Colour System is an opportunity to be brave and Dynamic and identify what you want and need from your space. This step alone leads to a multitude of benefits: focus, inspiration, possibilities, increased confidence, vocabulary and conversation around the scheme and what to consider and how to achieve it …. these are important considerations for ourselves and clients.

Part 2 identifies the fabrics, materials, papers and other colours to support and evolve the narrative in a more curated and considered way.

Still buzzing after yesterday’s workshop. The process of working through the Aesthetic Narrative is different for each person and the results are always so interesting and unique. The flow of conversation around all things colour is so inspiring and sparks ideas. In the (upgraded) workshop, comments like “I like this yellow but it’s a bit sweet and I’m a savoury person - I want the yellow to be more like mustard and vinegar” is all it took to tweak the caramel hue to a yellow a bit more zingy that felt right for a ‘convivial’ themed kitchen. Ideas were explored around what ‘traditional’ colours meant for someone’s family living room, including ethereal blue @edwardbulmerpaint, whereas the revelation that dark red Barolo @mad_about_the_house was good for a Dynamic Colour for a huge kitchen window feature (see phone image) to sit alongside Beacon Hill Gold @benjaminmooreuk that resonated for a Subjective relaxed colour-experience. Someone identified basalt blue @littlegreenepaintcompany for walls to disguise a black counter they want to hide in the next re-decoration with a ‘night and day’ theme, and apricot hues were explored for late afternoon ‘sun- kissed walls’ . The day was paused with a home-cooked Italian lunch to refresh minds and feed the soul in another way, and off we went with developing the foundation of a scheme for fabrics and wallpapers to later fall into.

Guests arrived with their ‘problem rooms’ that didn’t feel right, and frustrations! and left enthusiastic with their own map for creating something unique, colourful and mindfully curated. As always, the splendid 17 colours @argileuk are on display (see my presentation stand) for all to enjoy and see throughout Lantern Cottage.

A dedicated workshop for learning about the natura

A dedicated workshop for learning about the natural movement of colour in relation to light and form and how combinations can be created. A tool that can be applied for a room or a house, there are no limits. Together, we’ll explore how colour can be 'bent' around corners and architectural features amongst many other ways for transitioning between surfaces and rooms.

The Colour Perspectives, Placement and Purpose workshop enables attendees to see real-life examples in the house and how the theory is applied in real terms. Benefitting from aspect conditions and different room purposes, the use of colour throughout is analysed. These are optimum learning conditions. I’ll guide you through the process of making hue-informed decisions to navigate cooler and warmer schemes. Even better, you’ll get the chance to experiment yourself as you develop your own scheme. This is a full day workshop of 6 hours, lunch, materials and take-home bag included.

Confession time - I have a penchant for vintage fa

Confession time - I have a penchant for vintage fabrics. It’s a hangover from my teenage years in the 1980’s when my mother, who once worked as a patten cutter in @libertylondon in the late 1960’s, would invest in @libertyhomeandinteriors and @lauraashleyuk wallpaper and fabrics. Even in the bathroom 🙄. Suffice to say, I’d make all sorts of things with leftovers - on one occasion for her birthday, a pair of (completely unwearable) trousers out of her favourite material. Those pattern-cutting genes clearly weren’t passed down, but it’s quite special to think that scraps of beautiful fabrics feature in my workshops some 40 years later. Today, I went on a little trip in #hampshire and sourced some beauties to add my gorgeous collection of upcycled fabrics kindly donated @haines_collection , and last month I brought back some antique stunners from my vintage dealer in Italy. The workshops are places where designers explore and create and in that journey are fragments of colour found in unusual places from different timelines. I cannot wait to share these with you.
