An all-day workshop for experienced professionals who want to advance their skills using the Delysian Colour System

This part 1 and part 2 workshop taking place over one long day (with a £122 discount) is for anyone who wants to invest in using the Delysian Colour System for their work, or to enhance their own skills.

Taught at Fiona’s North London home, Lantern Cottage, these two workshops begin with Part 1: Aesthetic Narrative, which explores the relationship between colour and emotion, and the regulation of the nervous system by shaping behaviour and experience. You’ll build the foundation of a personal aesthetic profile as you identify dynamic and subjective influences for creating a palette with intention, structure and narrative.

In guided explanations and mood-boards throughout different rooms, Fiona demonstrates how colour becomes a tool for measuring and communicating emotion, in the UK’s only ‘in-house colour experience’.

In the second workshop, Part 2: Colour Perspective, the benefits of reading colour as a moving, organic element, and for navigating away from linear colour methods, are explored. Observations of shadow and highlight demonstrating the relationship between colour, form and light are examined in real-life settings, and equip you to think more broadly about the placement and purpose of colour, in your aesthetic narrative map, across aspect, rooms and dwellings.

By the end of the day, you’ll have substantially expanded your understanding of the synergy between the application of colour and the physiological experience of a space, and will have learned the principles for layering colour for any interior style. You’ll take away colour handling skills that improve your confidence, ultimately enhancing your personal understanding, and professional service to your clients.

What you’ll learn in part 1 and 2 workshops over an intensive day

Part 1 delves into the combined roles of perception, bias and imagination, for understanding how colour reframes the interaction and persona diaplogue with an interior space.

Through a structured exercise of practical and self-reflective considerations, colour choices are explored that echo ‘felt-life’ experiences. This process nurtures the limitations and solutions for a palette profile that helps map your own aesthetic narrative and final colour scheme. In this framework, you begin to understand the role of companion colours and accents for styling and material considerations that in turn supports a visual vocabulary, expressive of a unique style with personal context.

Part 2 delves into the true nature of shadow and highlight through guided real examples of the interplay between light, colour and form, and exercises in ‘bending’colour into warm and cool hues. This hands-on approach to creating harmonious and interesting combinations is a grounding experiment that illustrates how the placement of colour can enhance a room’s overall scheme and can onnect with other rooms and surfaces with a person’s measurable, light-informed sensibilities.

To conclude the day, you’ll develop your aesthetic narrative into a more evolved and intentional colour scheme, with the help of designer fabrics, paint chips and textural references.

Who is this full-day course for?

The full-day package is ideal for anyone already working with the application of colour within an interior design discipline, looking to further their strengths and style in an advanced day of study.

The two workshops are particularly useful for interior designers, colour consultants, architects or those with client-colour relationships. It is also a practical solution for those with limited study or travel availability.

The DCS provides an holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to the personal meaning of colour, and how to apply this to a practical way of working and communicating. It considers the perseption, psychology and physics of colour, and provides tools for making considerations in an educational and professional capacity for both client and consultant.

Both workshops include their own unique de Lys study materials: worksheets, a diary for colour thoughts (a much encouraged process in part 1), developmental maps for the aesthetic narrative, DCS colour roadmap and a trompe l’œil canvas.

The garden studio, a former Victorian wash-house, is an inspiring cosy space, equipped with designer, contemporary and vintage fabrics, wallpaper samples, colour chips, colour charts, reference books and magazines. Each guest has their own tall desk area with phone holder, and enough light as needed for the practical parts of the workshop.

All attendees have access to Luminaria an exclusive online network group, held once a month. It’s somewhere to meet, share ideas and colour schemes, or listen to guest expert speakers, and to chat about the techniques that enhance communication with clients and amongst peers.

“I was especially fascinated by Fiona’s approach to reading light and how she uses highlight and shadow to craft colour schemes that transition beautifully between spaces…I left feeling like my soul had been quietly nourished. A reminder of the deep, emotional resonance colour can carry.”
